Dr. George Hatzigiannis

Meet Oral and maxillofacial surgeon Dr. Hatzigiannis

George Hatzigiannis D.M.D., M.D. was born in Athens, Greece. His family moved to the Boston area so George and his two younger brothers could have better educational opportunities. George began his education at the Buckingham Browne & Nichols schools, where he graduated with the Lubets Prize in 1990.

Prior to formally entering professional school George attended Harvard University, where he obtained his A.B. with Honors in 1994. George then did research on joint replacement materials and bone biology at the Brigham & Women’s Hospital for 2 years, helping to pioneer current abilities to repair focal joint cartilage defects.

Dr. Hatzigiannis then entered dental school at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine, where he obtained his D.M.D. Degree with Honors in 2001. George continued research during his dental school years, working on implant inflammatory mediators, temporomandibular disorders, and pathologic cysts.

Dr. Hatzigiannis then entered training for oral and maxillofacial surgery at the University of Connecticut Health Center & Hartford Hospital. He earned his medical degree in 2004 from the University of Connecticut Medical School. He also completed two years of general surgery training at Hartford Hospital, and spent extensive time training with the anesthesia service and the plastic surgery service under Dr. Castiglione. Dr. Hatzigiannis’s training was completed in 2007. Since then, he has worked in the private medical and dental community of Massachusetts in a practice limited to oral and maxillofacial surgery.

Dr. Hatzigiannis practices a broad scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery. He has special interests in management of impacted teeth, dental implants and all aspects of bone grafting, facial bony pathology, and repair of complex facial and craniofacial trauma. His focus is always on patient safety, constantly expanding minimally invasive techniques to all aspects of his practice. He has not given a narcotic as part of sedation in nearly ten years, foreseeing the current crisis of opioid abuse. And he has invested in the lowest possible radiation dosage CBCT scanner on the market. Your safety is his only goal.

When not caring for patients, Dr. Hatzigiannis enjoys spending time with his wife and three children. His hobbies include photography, organic gardening and from-scratch cooking, traveling and, most of all, being a dad.
